| Data generated from the Coroner’s Court shows an increasing trend in youth suicide rate. A 30% increase youth male completed suicide cases (i.e. 8.9% in 2008 and 11.7% in 2009) are recorded†. Amongst the aged 15-24, unemployment and school dropout are the major two risk factors identified†. And it is also believed that young people are feeling challenged by family and social relationship problems†. Some attempted suicide or self-harming by overdosing or wrist cutting. It is no surprising that there are more disconnected adolescents and young adults who are facing hardships without being identified. Although researches in Hong Kong discussing on youth suicide and deliberate self-harm are still limited, social programs organized by the Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention of HKU and other community bodies are producing educational resources and prevention programs in helping the vulnerable young ones to walk through their personal upheavals. | 從香港死因裁判法庭的數據顯示出，青年人的自殺數字有增加的趨勢，由2008年每十萬人有8.9人增至2009年的11.7人。在15-24歲的青年組群當中，失業和輟學成為其中主要的風險成因。另外，我們相信青年人對家庭和社交關係等問題感到困惑。有些青年人選擇服用大量藥物或界刂手來傷害自己，我們不能夠排除社區上有大部分青年未接受到幫助。雖然香港對有關自我傷害的研究仍然有限，但由香港大學防止自殺研究中心和其他社會團體製作出教育資源和預防自殺的推廣和培訓以幫助這群脆弱無助的青年人來走過他們的陰霾。 |
