Global Launch of World Suicide Prevention Day 2011世界預防自殺日
|The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) co-sponsored World Suicide Prevention Day. World Suicide Prevention Day is held on September 10th each year. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness around the globe that suicide can be prevented. Disseminating information, improving education and training, and decreasing stigmatization are important tasks in such an endeavour. Hosting by the IASP and the HKJC Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention, the theme this year “preventing suicide in multicultural societies” remarks the importance of cultural sensitivity in all suicide prevention efforts in the world. Three symposiums and a press conference were held led by scholars and experts in suicidology field during the Day. It was a big success with over 150 delegates attending our conference. Supporting organization representatives like The Samaritans Hong Kong, Care for Life Association, Social Welfare Department of the HKSAR Government and The Hong Kong Police Force, participated and shared their knowledge and experience of suicide research and its prevention.
